Our group sustainability strategy, Second Nature, seeks to address key issues across the life cycle of our products by integrating sustainability as second nature to what we do, how we work and why we do it.
Second Nature will involve major environmental and community pledges. Our commitments to date include:
We have signed up our commitment to Champions 12.3 under the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal 12 - to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns - committed to cutting food waste by 50% by 2030.
We were the first meat manufacturer to sign up to Courtauld, a voluntary commitment to reduce the resources required to produce food in the UK by 20% by 2025, as well as reducing food waste by 20% by 2025. This will see us focus on reducing energy consumption, water usage, packaging materials and waste across the lifecycle of our products. Read more
Cranswick 2025 Plastic Pledge
We have made a commitment to reduce, reuse and recycle; reduce plastic use by 50%, reuse all internal plastic materials and ensure all packaging is 100% recyclable by 2025. Together with our industry peers, packaging providers and recycling reprocessors we intend to lobby the Government to implement a cohesive national recycling infrastructure to achieve this. Read more
100% Renewable Electricity
We are tackling our carbon footprint head on and will use 100% renewable electricity across the group from 1st March 2018, in addition to reducing our electricity consumption across the business.
Second Nature marks the start of our journey to ensure sustainability is embedded in our culture from farm to fork.
